Do All DVDs Have The Same Quality?
Many people when buying DVDs look at the price and usually buy the cheapest available or a brand that they know. They think that all DVDs are almost the same anyway when it comes to quality. You know what? They’re wrong! Not all DVDs have the same quality.
Not all blank DVD media are good. In fact, there’s a lot out there that are simply bad. Many companies import blank DVDs from Taiwan and Hongkong which unfortunately have poor quality standards for manufacturing DVDs.
And don’t think that just by looking at the brand, you know that it’s a good quality DVD you’re buying. The truth is the brand doesn’t really indicate who actually produced the disc. What you can do is to look at the media ID to find out who the maker of the DVD is.
So if the media ID indicates Taiyo Yuden or TYG01, TYG02, or YUDEN then you can be assured that you got the best. The maker is Taiyo Yuden which is the company that invented the CD technology.
Another good one is MCC which is a DVD media ID indicating that the disc was produced by Mitsubishi.
Those with a media ID that say sony Do5 (made by Sony), Fuji Film (Fuji), and RICOHJPN (Ricoh) are not as good as the above but acceptable.
Watch out for media IDs that say MBI (produced by MBI), CMC (Pioneer) and CMCMAG (Pioneer). These DVDs are of poor quality.
